Unlimited promotes a ministry of perpetual conversion. Christianity
is not a static, but rather a dynamic faith through which the
Holy Spirit continually helps us redefine and rediscover for
today the unchanging command to love each other.
Spiritual practices are our tools for this work of continual
creation.
Several
places in the Christian Gospels* Jesus says we must leave ourselves
behind - our plans, thoughts, desires, opinions, possessions,
egos -- to stop what we are doing - our busyness, telephone
calls, distractions, noise, appointments -- and follow him.
Lets
face it - spiritual growth is serious and hard work. In
the
Gospel of Luke that instruction includes the daily
taking up of your cross. Spiritual practices are disciplines
(from the word "disciple") for daily use. Honestly, if we
are not growing in spirit we become spiritually dead (the
indication
of life is growth and movement).
For
those seeking a first hand experience of God; not settling for
second hand accounts from others, the challenge is in learning
together to recognize God for ourselves.
May
these suggestions of spiritual practices, dating from the earliest
accounts of the church and practiced by millions today, be of
guidance to you. Notice, as well, that although Christian in
their origin and use, they closely resemble practices from other
great world religions. After all, there is one God, and many
before us have sought, and along side of us today still seek,
to be in that Presence.
