The
door is a prominent symbol in the Christian scriptures. We read of
Jesus
knocking at the door, (Matt 7:8, Luke 11:9, Rev 3:20).
It is through the narrow door that one must pass in order to recognize
Truth (Luke
13:24) and it is necessary for the door to be open
for the message to be heard (Acts 14:27,
2 Cor 2:12, Col 4:3).
In our logo this door is half open symbolizing the decision we face
to push it open or pull it shut.
Behind the door is all that God has in store for us were we to walk
through the opening. This is called Grace.
It represents the unlimited promises, the gifts, freely given to
us. Whether through lack of faith or courage we are free to refuse
God's Grace.
Notice that the rays of Grace extend around
the door. There are no walls. We could walk right around the door
directly into God's Grace. There is only a door because we
believe there is a barrier.
The door represents the obstacles we erect, the rituals we believe
we must accomplish, the service we must perform, the worthiness we
must
acquire, whatever we use as reasons not to believe God's unconditional
love, acceptance and forgiveness and simply accept them. To
accept is enlightenment.
There is no need for the door other than to represent the resistance
many carry to believing that God is already giving us everything
we
need for our life. There is no more for us in this life "out there" or
later. All is here and now. The Spirit of Christ dwells within. Our
logo invites
us to open the door and walk into the Light of Life found within our
own being.
